The right work tote does three jobs: it fits your laptop and daily load, it closes so nothing falls out on the commute, and it reads professional. Start with what you actually carry, then match the bag to that — not the other way around.
1. Measure your daily load first
Before picking a style, list what lives in your bag on a normal day: laptop, charger, notebook, wallet, phone, lunch, makeup pouch, water bottle. A tote that fits a 13-inch laptop and a notebook is very different from one that also swallows a 15.6-inch laptop and a packed lunch.
Our leather totes run about 31–33 cm wide and 28 cm tall. That fits a 13-inch laptop and most 14-inch laptops comfortably. If your laptop is 15.6 inches (about 36 cm wide), check the interior measure — most slim totes won't close over it, and you'll want a larger commuter tote or a backpack hybrid instead.
2. Pick the closure by your commute
- Zip-top: best for trains, bikes, and crowded streets — nothing spills, and pickpockets can't slip a hand in.
- Snap or magnetic flap: quicker to open at a meeting, still secure enough for a car or office commute.
- Open top: easy access, but only keep it if the bag stays on your lap or in a trunk.
3. Material sets the tone
A genuine leather zip tote reads sharper in an office than woven PU and holds its structure through a year of commuting. Our work totes use genuine leather for exactly that reason. If weight matters more than polish, a lighter PU tote is fine for a casual dress code.
4. Straps and comfort
Look for a drop length that lets the tote sit at your hip, not bang your knee. A 28–30 cm drop is the sweet spot for most. If you walk a long way, a tote with a removable shoulder strap saves your arm.
