A crossbody is only comfortable if the strap actually fits you. Too short and the bag rides under your arm; too long and it swings at the knee. Bags with a genuinely long, adjustable strap solve this for tall frames, plus-size wearers, and anyone who wears layers. Here is how to get the fit right.
Measure Your Drop
The "drop" is the distance from the strap top to the bag's top edge. For a crossbody worn across the body, you want a total strap length of roughly 110–140 cm so it rests at the high hip. Measure shoulder to opposite hip to be sure.
What "Adjustable" Should Mean
- Long range: The slider should reach at least 130 cm fully extended.
- Secure hardware: A metal slider that will not slip under weight.
- Smooth glide: Easy to lengthen even over a coat.

For Plus-Size and Tall Wearers
| You are… | Look for |
|---|---|
| Tall (170 cm+) | 130 cm+ max length |
| Plus-size | Wide, padded, long strap |
| Layerer (coats) | Extra 10–15 cm of slack |
Comfort Details
A strap at least 1.5 cm wide spreads the load. Detachable straps let you swap a thin dressy chain for a padded everyday webbing. See our crossbody commute guide for more on strap comfort.
The Fit Test
Pro tip: adjust the strap so the bag sits at your high hip with the strap crossing to the opposite shoulder. If it pulls one side up, it is too short.
